Which states have no sales tax?+
Five states have no statewide sales tax: Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire and Oregon. Alaska and Montana allow local sales taxes in some areas, so add a local rate there.
Why is the rate different from what I paid?+
This uses the state base rate. Most cities and counties add a local sales tax on top, so your real combined rate is usually higher — enter your local rate to match it exactly.
Are these rates current?+
They are state base rates for 2024. Local rates change often and vary within a state, so treat the result as an estimate and confirm your local rate for exact figures.
